In a Hospital or Medical environment, it is important to choose the right Medical Surgical Face Masks. You may have heard of a Level 1, 2, or 3 mask - what is the difference, and what is best for me? We'll Explain...
There are four things to think about when choosing a mask for different applications in the Medical world:
- Does the Disposable Face Mask have an ASTM Rating?
- What Level is the Mask Certified for?
- Do you have testing results to prove the mask's efficiency?
- Review the Application I am using the facemask in.
Does the Face Mask have an ASTM Rating? ASTM Internation is an organization that develops and publishes Global Standards for an expansive array of products, services, and materials. There are almost 13,000 ASTM stands used around the world today! For face masks, the standard that must be complied with is the ASTM F2100 standards.
What Level is the Mask Certified for? There are (3) different levels of surgical masks in which the ASTM Standards rate for; Fluid Resistance, Breathability, Bacterial Filtration (BFE), Particulate Filtration (PFE), and Flammability. The following Pictures shows an illustration of the testing:
- Level 1 is for low risk of fluid exposure (doctor visit or consultation)
- Level 2 is for moderate risk of fluid exposure (standard medical procedures)
- Level 3 is for high risk of fluid exposure (Surgery, operations)
Do you have testing results to prove the efficiency of the mask? We are all aware of the fraudulent activity that has taken over the PPE world of face masks, it is very important to confirm you have the correct verified testing results prior to purchasing the disposable face masks and that you are dealing with a reputable company. I'm going to have to throw this in to - make sure the face masks you buy are USA Made!
Review that application you will be using the mask in. It is a good idea to discuss with your team the exact application you will be using the masks in to make sure you are purchasing the right Level mask. You will find each level to be at a slightly different price range. Feel free to message us or drop a comment below for a guideline on pricing for the masks.
